FAFSA LabThis is a reminder that Pickens High School will be hosting a FAFSAlab for any senior parent who wants help completing the FAFSA. Our event will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 31 and will begin at 6:30. It would be helpful for you to visit the FAFSA website at www.fafsa.ed.gov and print out a copy of the worksheet to bring with you ( click the FAFSA Options link)or you can simply bring your financial documents on the night of the lab. The lab will take place in room 226.

AES Engineering ScholarshipStudents interested in pursing degrees in engineering are encouraged to apply for the AES Engineering Scholarship. To be eligible the student must answer one essay question that they will find at http://www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm . Achieving a high GPA is not necessary when applying for this scholarship. The student's character and work ethic are strong components of this scholarship. The award amount is $500 and the deadline to submit this application is Oct. 5, 2012.
SCEAR Education Scholarship The SC Education Association-Retired administer the JP Coates scholarship for those seniors planning to major in the field of education. The amount of the scholarship is $1000 and will be awarded for four consecutive years unless the recipient completes graduation requirements early, decides not to pursue a career in education or fails to maintain a 3.0 GPA. Applications are located on the scholarship bulletin board between the Guidance Office and the athletic wing. All applications are due no later than March 15, 2012.
Buick Achievers Scholarship ProgramSeniors interested in pursuing degrees in engineering, technology, design or business, with an interest in the automotive industry are encouraged to apply online for the Buick Achievers Scholarship. This is a very significant scholarship worth up to $100,000 ( $25,000 for 4 years). Application deadline is February 29, 2012. 2012 Nina Neely Scholarship Essay ContestThe Reformed Universal Masonic Brotherhood and Order of the Eastern Star, Inc is sponsoring the Nina Neely Scholarship Essay Contest for 2012. This year the essay topic is " Has technology helped or harmed the world? The scholarship committee will award three scholarships: (1) $1000, (1) $600, and (1) $400. CWIT ScholarshipThe CWIT scholarship is available to any senior interested in pursuing a degree in international trade. Seniors are required to write a 2-4 page essay on one of three topics. Four scholarships will be given: (2) $3000 scholarships and (2) $1500 scholarships. The James F. Byrnes Foundation ScholarshipThe James F. Byrnes Scholarship program was established to assist young South Carolina students who have lost one or both parents to obtain a college education. The annual award of $3250 is applied for each year of a four year bachelor's degree program. The scholarship is renewed annually contingent upon the recipient's maintenance of satisfactory academic standing, need for financial assistance, and participation in Byrnes Scholar activities. Interested students are encouraged to visit the James F. Byrnes Foundation website at www.byrnesscholars.org to obtain an application packet. Bridge to ClemsonThe Bridge Program, in conjunction with Tri County Technical College, is a cooperative admission progarm designed to assist a select group of students who cannot be offered regular admission to Clemson but who wish to have a freshman year experience with the distinct Clemson flavor. Students enroll in a transferable curriculum at TCTC for the entire freshmen year and while taking these classes will have access to a number of services and programs on the Clemson campus. They are assured a seamless transition to Clemson the following year if they meet the academic expections of the program. Individual Graduation PlansThe South Carolina Education and Economic Development Act ( EEDA) requires schools to implement an IGP, Individual Graduation Plan, for students beginning in the eighth grade and continuing each year through high school. At the IGP conference, parents and students will meet with their grade level counselor to update the IGP and discuss college and career plans. Senior parents and students should have received IGP appointment times during registration. In the event that the parent can not attend the scheduled IGP conference, information will be sent home with the student. It is very iimportant that parents review, sign and return the IGP to school. Please see Mrs. Cudd if you have questions.
